Solutions for common paint failures

Rising damp

Damp usually does not rise higher than 1.2m from ground level. See efflorescence or blisters.

Cause / Prevention / Tips

  • Water should flow away from the structure.
  • Keep ground levels in mind when landscaping.
  • Do not landscape to close to foundation walls.

Remedy

  • High pressure wash to remove efflorescence, loose and flaking paint.
  • Allow to dry until moisture content is below 15% measured with an ultrasonic meter or over 5% with a pin-type meter.
  • Apply deep penetrating PlasterPrime or DampCure to stabilize surface before repainting entire surface.
